Motor thalamus (Mthal) is a key node in the corticobasal ganglia loop that has been implicated in the complex dexterous control of movement. Mthal firing rate is modulated in a temporally precise pattern during reach-to-grasp movements and exhibits profound deficits under parkinsonian condition. I am interested in defining the synaptic organization of basal ganglia outputs to Mthal and their impact on Mthal activity during motor control in healthy and parkinsonian conditions.
